He had a talent for finding things which brought attention. He enjoyed how the tribe challenged him, and started to take dares to prove himself, even when it involved seeing who could jump the farthest tree limb to farthest tree limb. He took the bet with some of his tribemates, but when he leaped, immedately knew he was in trouble as he plumeted toward the ground, having only the chieftain's long tooth to break his fall. The long tooth didn't see him until it was too late. Nighteyes survived but the long tooth's back was broken. Chieftain, furious at the sight of his bond friend killed, a result of the young hunter's folly, banished Nighteyes from his sight to never return to their holt for his recklessness. Noone wanted to question the Chieftain, who was lost in his anger, grief and pain at the sight of his bond friend's broken body. Nighteyes' mother and father packed his things onto his tiger, saddened to see him go but knowing that this what he needed to mature as a adult, and put away these foolish dares. |
